Rever One wrote:I got killed heading into Amamake, decided to warn the people in Osoggur heading into Ama. The pirates called me homo. Told them I am gay and would petition them for hate speech. Then they really started laying it on. Lots of name calling. I am still there and so is the gate camp in Ama, lots of legions and huginns. Hate speech is all right with everybody in Eve, right? Doesn't matter what names I get called. Just wondering. No, this kind of language is not ok with everyone in EVE. Petition the **** out of the guys.
(And yes, there is a difference between saying **** in public and using gay as insult. If you people really cannot figure it out yourselves, I can explain.) |

Patient 2428190 wrote:Congratulations you just reaffirmed every reason they had to smack you in the first place by showing how much it bothered you. Assuming that people who oppose to racist/sexist/homophobic slurs do so because they are terribly upset about it is a mistake.
If you cannot tell apart "wahwahwah someone called me gay as an insult, my day is ruined" from "uh guys, do we really want our game to be full of this kind of ****" you need to grow up a little, really. |

It does, but it shouldn't.

Herping yourDerp wrote:your having feelings... words are words. zomg you don't like it? right click their names and hit block communication. That solves the problem for the OP, sure.
It does not solve the problem for the next twenty rookies who would also not prefer to see the crap.
Petition, then block. |

Kattshiro wrote:Not saying what they did is acceptable. More like people are going to be dicks... Best learn to deal with it, and coming to the forums probably not helping your cause. He is dealing with it: he is talking about it with others and asking whether everyone is fine with such things. The assumption that he'd be terribly upset about it, and that his cause (rather than talk about it with the community) would be to stop someone being mean to him personally on local is not really warranted based on the OP.
He is in fact dealing with it way better than someone who just stays quiet and hopes the smacktalkers go away (or blocks them). After all, it is just internet words. If he calls for better community standards against such words, what are they gonna do to him? More words on local? So what? He can petition and block them too. |

Kriegman wrote:Wait, I just checked. There is no "Hurt Feelings" category in petition form.... welp. Someone please call the moral police. The category to petition under is Rules&Policies, and under that either EULA&TOS (that forbid such language) or Harassment (if it was directed to the petitioner personally enough).

Bane Necran wrote:Gorinia Sanford wrote:especially if you live in a nation where free speech is a right The reason it was made a right in the first place is so people can speak out against the government without fear of harm, not so they can verbally abuse others. Free speech, moreover, does not mean you can go anywhere and say anything and not expect to be removed from the premises. If you go to a church during a ceremony and start making noice, or if you go to a private party and start insulting people present, you can be removed from there and no amount of crying about your free speech will help.
My freedom of speech guarantees that I can call you an ******* for using homophobic slurs as insults. It also guarantees that I can petition to CCP about it (until such time that they tell me not to). Your freedom of speech does not guarantee that CCP has to let you say anything you like on the channels of their game - any more than mine guarantees that CCP filters do not censor out *******.
Oh these people who get terribly upset when someone tells them that the things they say are stupid or hateful and that normal people would rather not see that crap - I guess their idea of freedom of speech stops at other people telling them their opinions...
Tarsus Zateki wrote:Good work getting bent out of shape over nothing. Anyone else remember when the general population of Eve wasn't a bunch of babies that petition everything at the drop of a hat? OP you forgot to also say they were CYBER-BULLYING you. I assure you my policy on whether and when to petition such things has not changed in eight years. |
